CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Jiu Jitsu
Jiu Jitsu is a submission grappling sport with origins in Brazil and Japan. Called “the gentle art” for its lack of strikes, Jiu Jitsu involves trying to take your opponent down, obtain a dominant position, and submit them with chokes or joint locks. At Underdog we are currently teaching exclusively no-gi jiu jitsu for a more athletic, slippery experience. The lunchtime jiu jitsu classes and classes marked “fundamentals” are beginner friendly.
Kickboxing
Underdog Martial Arts kickboxing classes borrow from the best of various striking arts like muay thai, dutch style kickboxing, boxing, karate, and more. In the fundamentals class, students will learn basic movement, punches, kicks, and defenses. In the more advanced classes, students will learn to apply what they’ve learned to sport and/or self defense context. These classes are technique-focused but also get your heart rate up for a killer workout. These classes are drilled with a partner and do involve light contact.
Women’s Self Defense
Our Womens Self Defense program borrows from the best of jiu jitsu, striking, wrestling, traditional self defense, and more. In this class, students will get instruction on verbal advocacy and deescalation as well as physical defenses. You can expect to learn defenses for various situations, but more importantly, how to fight in general. These classes welcome and cater to beginners. Most importantly - this program is more than a series of classes - its a community of strong women seeking to better themselves and each other through growing stronger together.
Heavy Bag HIIT
Heavy Bag HIIT is an addictingly rewarding combination of kickboxing combinations on the heavy bag and good old-fashioned high-intensity interval training. You’ll learn proper technique for fundamental kicks and punches to get the most our of your workout. Don’t let the name scare you, Heavy Bag HIIT is suitable for all levels and is beginner-friendly. Come with gloves ready to work hard.
